Thank you for this honest take, Stephen. I agree with you that we need more voices sharing the other side as it seems a larger majority hides this so well.
On the other hand, I don’t think Social Media has as much to do with this negative influence on the Entrepreneurship Narrative as much as we, humans, tend to want to believe what we want to believe.
When I think of someone like Gary Vaynerchuk, for example, I can’t recall the number of times he’s talked about his own hard journey and love for the grind. It would surprise me if anyone who has listened to Gary doesn’t get this — and most people who skim the surface don’t.
I can’t blame Social Media for this. But that’s just me. I like to go deep and before I am sold on any idea/advice, my question is: Why should I believe you anyway?
The struggle is real. So, when you say “You have to want to start a business because you believe in it”, I’m 100% in agreement with you because like you’ve shared with such clarity and heart, there will be days when everything just sucks.
I think it’s that belief that keeps the real entrepreneur going. Thanks again for raising your voice!
